That was the first reaction that I expressed as I saw my hard drive crash and my mother board refuse to reboot. I was devastated as I realized that it had be over a year since i had done any back up!!! Oh Crap!! was the second reaction. More about this as I recover what I can!!

There is a company somewhere that does hard-drive restoring. If your data is very important and irreplacable, they can get it for you. I saw a story on them on that CBS Sunday Morning show. I can't recall the name, but maybe you can dig up a report on them from the show's web site or Google search them.
It won't be cheap. I remember they recovered a laptop computer from a sunken ship, that had been down there for a year and still got all the data back.
I don't think there's any situation where they would fail to retrieve your data.
